Eligibility

Even though our event is titled "Prince" Olympics, the spirit of inclusiveness leads me to open up the event to anyone who wants to compete and use it as a motivating tool for improvement. Depending on who ends up participating, we may have different categories of competition. This started out as a competition between John and I (mainly because we were at generally the same level of out-of-shapeness) and only grew to include others who we knew to share our level of out-of-shapeness. With that in mind, here are the categories of competition (official and unofficial) as they shape up in my mind....

1. John vs. Lee (unofficial)- this is the heart of the event for me and carries on a long tradition of competition dating back to the original events of 1-on-1 basketball, table tennis, chess, arm wrestling, Mario Kart, Stratego, etc.

2. Douglas F. Prince grandsons (official)- This was the conceived start of the event because of the natural competition already existing in this group and dating back to the Turkey Bowl, chess, working out together (John, Doug and I worked out together a lot in our prime. To see me in my prime, reference the picture above), and Battle Tops at Grandpa & Grandma Prince's house. To a greater extent this touches on the roots of Prince competition of past generations. Also, and more importantly, whether because of genetics or otherwise, most of the people I can think of in this group that could conceivably make it to Katy on the day of the competition are not completely out of my reach, competitively.

3. Quasi-open (unoffical)- I don't want to open the competition up to total strangers, but anyone with a connection to me or the Princes is welcome to compete and match skills in the Olympics. Whit McClendon has expressed interest and others may also. The main drawback of making this an official group is the variability of starting fitness of participants. As more people in this group show interest, further group tweaking may need to happen and this group may gain official status.

I could envision a competition like a marathon where all competitors are side by side but broken up into many different competing groups. Others with ideas or comments feel free to post.

More on the events themselves tomorrow.

  1. Today I did a pushup workout. After I'm done studying today, I plan on making my master plan for the year, including exercise and diet details.

  3. Does puking count as an ab workout? Er...not that I puked after my session, mind you...I'm, uh, just curious. ;-)

  4. It doesn't count as a workout but it might help you shed the pounds to squeeze out a few more pullups :)
